When 3M asked us to come to Chicagoland Speedway just prior to a major professional motorsport event, at first we thought, “Are we taking a lap around the track in their sponsored car?”
Well, no. But the company still offered Bloomingdale Signs by Tomorrow an enticing challenge: Apply a vehicle wrap using 3M products to transform a Ford Focus into a sports fan’s dream machine.
And by the way – the whole project had to be completed in a matter of hours, before the actual race started.

As if being crunched for time wasn’t enough of a factor, adding to the pressure was the fact that our team of installers didn’t have the benefit of working in-house. Wrapping a vehicle near the track posed the additional challenge of working remotely, so if there were any questions or extra tools needed, our “home base” wasn’t exactly right around the corner. Just like a race car driver weaving through traffic, the project’s margin of error was miniscule.
Fortunately for us, we had two things going for us: Experience and a terrific product. Since we’re 3M Certified Installers at Bloomingdale Signs by Tomorrow, we’ve met rigorous testing to be recognized for our ability to follow 3M installation procedures. And we’ve done thousands of vehicle wraps ever since.
Plus, our installers were working with the 3M Scotchprint® Wrap Film 1080 series, which allows you to change vinyl easier and with more flexibility than painting ever could. Thanks to this product, if we wanted to do rally stripes or flames on the vehicle, we could do that with relative ease. Instead, we chose to “Bear Down” with the orange and blue color scheme of a certain Chicago football team.
In the end, it was a great feeling to watch our installers come through for a trusted partner like 3M. Not to mention our wrapped vehicle captured the attention of many as it was parked alongside an actual race car. Not too shabby.
