First, let’s talk product. We’re excited to be using a brand new kind of vinyl released from 3M called Envision Wrap that allows us to stretch at least 150% beyond the normal standards. With a material that offers greater strength and easier removal, a world of possibilities open up for print applications. It goes on without primer and maintains a soft feel.
It doesn’t crack when the heat’s on.
We know what you might be thinking here – “With that degree of stretching, don’t you run a greater risk of the film tearing or cracking?” We’ve put it to the test already, installing this material in extreme temperatures and we’re mighty impressed by its durability against UV rays, moisture, even acid dew.
Naturally, it doesn’t do you much good if it goes on smooth and lifts unexpectedly next week or a few months from now. Fortunately, 3M’s newest film has real staying power post-installation, with resistance to lifting that keeps us from making a return trip for rework.
Yes, but does it play nicely with our printer?
Absolutely. Our printer is fully compatible, using latex inks that can stretch without having a negative effect on the color, such as inadvertent lightening of tones and shades. Plus, since ER2 Image Group (Formerly Bloomingdale Signs by Tomorrow) is continually making an effort to work with environmentally-friendly products, it feels good knowing the film we’re using has been manufactured with 60% less solvent and no chlorine or halogens added.
Still, you can have the very best materials possible but it still takes the experience of a seasoned installer to work with all kinds of challenging surfaces.
