Numerator is a data and tech company that’s all about helping some of the biggest brands in the world understand consumer behavior and identify growth opportunities from it. We’re talking about the kind of powerful market intelligence and insights that most Fortune 100 companies rely on, including Target, Coca-Cola, HP, Unilever and Walmart.
When Numerator moved its global headquarters into the iconic Marshall Fields building in downtown Chicago, it had a whole new brand that needed to set a tone of creativity, collaboration and innovation for everyone who set foot in the location.
The environment would have to inspire the team that worked at Numerator every day, reinvigorate the clients who had known them for years and excite new prospects with an unmistakable first impression.
Enter Applied Surfaces and ER2 Image Group.
The Applied Surfaces division from ER2 Image Group was tasked with the awesome responsibility of bringing the new look of Numerator to life.
Like a lot of our more complex projects, Numerator had a variety of incredibly cool ideas but wasn’t 100% sure how many of those ideas were possible to execute.
Fortunately, we were confident that many of the designs on paper could work in the real world, thanks to our relationship with a familiar face behind the new brand’s design: Karen Vu, Numerator’s Head of Brand Management. We’d meshed well with Karen on an earlier project at InnerWorkings and with her new role at Numerator, she was gracious to bring us in again.
“Numerator’s office was definitely a unique transformation. There were a lot of things we were able to do on this project that you don’t normally see in other office spaces like it.”

The Numerator Massive Logo Challenge

When you’re creating a new brand as Numerator has, every part of the office represents a potential place to reinforce the look and feel of what you’ve built. Such as when Applied Surfaces built this massive, die-layered, semi-translucent acrylic logo that likely weighed close to 300 lbs.
The good thing about these kinds of projects is that there is always a new challenge for our installation team and this dimensional piece certainly applies. For that reason, we’re quite thankful that we have installers that get it right the first time.
Custom Neon Work For The New Brand

Is It Artwork? Is It Branding? Yes. And It’s Numerator.

“It’s always fun to get into a space and you see there are some areas that really need to be addressed by the brand. That alone was an opportunity here we couldn’t pass up.”

Window Films That Set The Vibe Just Right

Conventional pieces. Window films. Wall coverings. From start to finish, ER2 Image Group’s Applied Surfaces division did it all on a project that many would describe as fun (well, maybe except for lifting that 300 lb. logo – that was less fun, but so worth it).
Planning on launching a new brand in your existing office or launching a new brand in a new location? Think about how your people, vendors and clients will interact with that brand every day. Are they going to pass right by one piece in one area or are they going to be immersed in your brand within every space?
