The Fast and Furious franchise is an international phenomenon, with films grossing over $5 billion combined. But it all started in 2001, and Brian O’Connor’s (played by Paul Walker) 1994 Toyota Supra Mark IV was a major piece of the original film.
In direct collaboration with Toyota, ER2 Image Group recently wrapped a Supra to pay homage to that famous street racer. But thanks to the many curves that make up the car, the job was easier said than done. Here’s how we pulled it off.
The origin story
Toyota approached us because they needed a skillful vehicle wrap for a promotional vehicle. The idea was to wrap a Toyota Supra in a Fast and Furious-style look, and the car would then be lent to local dealerships. We’ve been a premier vendor of Toyota’s for over 5 years, wrapping vehicles for the Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers, Minnesota Wild, Chicago Cubs and more.
The Toyota team gave us good direction and plenty of room to work, so it was on us to find the right film and apply it with care.
The Supra wrap
We decided on a matte orange wrap using 3M’s 2080 film. It’s a durable and very high-quality product that doesn’t limit creativity or imagination. If you have the picture in your head, the wrap brings it to life beautifully.
The main challenge of the wrap job itself was the curvature of the Supra. It takes extra time and patience to heat the vinyl and stretch it around a car like that, and that’s where an expert install team comes in handy. The ER2 Installation Team is filled with 3M certified graphic installers, and their work speaks for itself.
Ultimately, we wanted the wrap to look like it was painted on, and that’s precisely what we achieved. Toyota was happy with the result, and they appreciated the spot-on color and overall look of the car.
