The Old Post Office stands as an iconic landmark in Chicago, with millions of people driving under it as they enter downtown. However, for decades, this architectural giant sat largely abandoned, a sleeping relic of the past.
That was about to change.
With an $800 million renovation—the most significant historic redevelopment in the country—the Old Post Office was reimagined as a modern workplace for a new generation of corporate tenants, including UBER Freight.
A Tribute to the Art of Correspondence
One of the standout features of this transformation is the Stamp Wall, an expansive installation located next to and over the building’s main escalators.
To bring this concept to life, ER2 Image Group created a 14.5 x 94-foot wall, featuring 2,000 replica postcards printed on birch wood using a UV process. This technique allowed the natural wood grain to show through, mimicking the vintage look of early 20th-century postcards.
Each postcard, sourced from the 1920s and 1930s, pays homage to the building’s postal legacy and the countless personal stories once carried through its halls.
In a world where digital communication is instantaneous, these handwritten relics serve as a powerful reminder of a time when each letter carried weight, anticipation, and deep emotion. These postcards represent:
✉️ Heartfelt notes between loved ones
📬 Announcements of major life events
🚛 Correspondence safeguarded by dedicated postal workers
A Journey Through Time
As visitors gaze upon the Stamp Wall, they are not just observing a design installation—they are stepping back in time.
This wall bridges the past and present, reminding us that the stories behind our communications are just as important as the messages themselves.
To further enhance the ambiance, large frames and fabric installations featuring historic images of the Old Post Office were strategically placed throughout the space.
More Than a Renovation—A Legacy Reborn
Bringing the Old Chicago Post Office back to life was more than just a restoration project—it was a passion project.
Our team at ER2 Image Group poured its technical expertise and creativity into ensuring that this space was not just functional, but also emotionally engaging.
By blending history, art, and innovation, we have crafted an environment where tenants feel inspired, connected, and proud of their workspace.
For us, achieving that sense of connection is just as important as restoring this beloved Chicago landmark.
