Out With the Old, In With the New: Announcing The Retirement of Our HP Flatbed

Goodbye

Staying on the cutting edge of printing technology sometimes takes sacrifice. And this month brings a prime example, as we retire our HP FB6100 flatbed printer to move on to bigger and better things.

It was six years ago that we invested $360k to make the HP flatbed part of the ER2 Image Group (Formerly Bloomingdale Signs By Tomorrow) team.  But, with technology advancing as it does, it now costs more to ship her than she’s worth (after all, the beast weighs 16,000 pounds). So, despite the fact she’s still functional, we are selling the HP to be recycled as scrap metal and installing our second Vutek QS3200.

The Vutek QS3200 produces High-Definition Print (HDP) at a true resolution of 1080 dpi. Since it provides brilliant four or six-color imaging with a special 7th channel for white ink, upgrading to this machine brings a depth of detail and precision to our large-format printing like we’ve never seen before. Plus, the Vutek has a print speed of up to 900 square feet (84 square meters) or twenty-two 4’x 8’ boards per hour.

While we’re sad to see the ol’ HP printer go, we’re sure happy with her replacement. Keep an eye on our new Facebook YouTube channel over the next few months to see for yourself what she can do.
